Silicon Carbide Seals

Silicon carbide is not a naturally occurring substance on earth. Thus, it is an outer terrestrial immigrant.
It is the only chemical compound of carbon and silicon. It owns low density, high strength, low thermal expansion, high thermal conductivity, high hardness, high elastic modulus and so on, and it is used in abrasives, refractoriness, ceramics, and numerous high-performance applications. The material can also be made an electrical conductor and has applications in resistance heating, flame igniters and electronic components.
As important raw materials, silicon carbide (SiC) components have been widely used in more and more industries such as machinery, petroleum, chemical, ship and auto manufacturing, aviation and aerospace, military and nuclear industry, because of the special characteristics of SiC such as their high hardness and strength, excellent resistance to wear and corrosion, low coefficient of friction, good self-lubricate and high temperature properties. Now, SiC are always used to replace tungsten carbide and alumna oxide for the application as: sand blasting nozzle, mechanical seal, wire drawing mould, neutron absorption block, bulletproof vest, armor plate, measuring clamp, bearing, casting mould, grinding media, sealed washer, slide, drawing, casting, proofing, corrosion, resistance, grinding ball...
The silicon carbide seals, or SiC seals, have the advantages of excellent corrosion resistance, high coefficient of heat conductivity, self-lubricity, small expansion. It can be widely used in the petroleum, chemical, machinery-building, cosmonautics and motors industries. The frictional factor of combination of silicon carbide and carbon graphite is the least, so it widely applied to high characteristics for the mechanical seals.

Silicon carbide seal faces have the property of excellent resistant-corrosion, high mechanical strength, high thermal conductivity and good self-lubrication. Silicon carbide seal faces are widely used in many different industries, including spacecraft, machinery, metallurgy, printing and dyeing, foodstuff, pharmaceutical, auto industry and so on. When the silicon carbide seal faces are combined with graphite faces, the friction is the smallest, they can be made into mechanical seals which are able to work in highest working requirements.
